About

My name is Roger Johnson and I have been raising Coturnix Quail since 1995 in Owatonna, Minnesota.  A life-long career in the grain and animal/poultry feed business led me into raising quail, first as a hobby, and later into a full time occupation.

About

Johnson Quail

My name is Roger Johnson and I have been raising Coturnix Quail since 1995 on my farm in Owatonna, Minnesota. A life-long career in the grain and animal/poultry feed business led me into raising quail, first as a hobby, and later into a full time occupation.

We are a small, family owned business, employing one full-time worker and three part-time students, in addition to my wife and myself. We have a hands-on approach to quail production, with everyone being involved in all aspects of the operation, from the layers to hatching to shipping.

I am a 23 year member of The Minnesota Falconers Association and The North American Falconers Association.

Feeding
My quail feeding program is based on my experience in the poultry feed manufacturing industry. I work with a professional poultry nutritionist and together we have formulated the diets that I use. The feed is custom manufactured at a nearby mill according to our ingredient and nutrient specifications. We know that there are no short-cuts to producing a quality bird, so we feed a high protein, high energy ration to produce maximum weight gain. We also boost some of the vitamin, amino acid, and other nutrients that are beneficial to captive raptors.
